Three New Northern Ireland Co-ops!

A great Co-operative welcome to three new co-operatives! These new groups have started their co-operative journey, in defining their purpose, appreciating what is involved in working collectively towards the same aim and reaching the important registration milestone. This means becoming a publicly recognized co-operative and operating for the benefit of their members and communities.

Congratulations to:

Rabble Co-operative Ltd – a co-operative providing specialised technological services to voluntary, public and private organisations fulfilling a social purpose. The co-operative will also promote the use of technology, which respects, protects and progresses fundamental human rights. At present Rabble Co-op is gathering information on how social justice and community based organisations use technology. Please do help them out with their survey on https://www.rabble.coop

Edenderry Village Energy Limited– a community benefit society set up for the benefit of its members and the community in the Edenderry Village. The Society will develop, build and run decarbonized district heating system, providing affordable hot water and heating from a geothermal source.

Belfast Co-Housing– a mutual Society that will provide affordable housing in the Belfast area. This is a community-led housing project which has explored many legal alternatives and decided that registering as a co-operative, would be the best vehicle to continuing working towards the development of the first urban co-housing scheme.

This has been made possible by Belfast City Council’s Economic Department Support Programme for Co-operatives, which has enabled Co-operative Alternatives to guide the new co-operatives through their initial steps. We will invite these projects to introduce themselves during our Discovery Co-ops series. So keep an eye on our website.
