Great recognition in the Report on the Pre-legislative Scrutiny of the Co-operative Societies Bill for the reduction from seven to three members, the introduction of an asset lock, ‘the removal of these burdensome restrictions on the ability of co-operatives to raise funds through a variety of different means’ including community shares and finally the Committee recommends ‘the re-establishment of the co-operative development unit (CDU) to provide independent advice, training, and support to co-operatives’.
Specialist advice is an important aspect for the development of the co-operative sector North and South of Ireland.
