Consultation Alert: Credit Unions (Amendment) Bill
The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for the Economy is seeking views on the Credit Unions (Amendment) Bill, and this is an opportunity for the wider co-operative movement to make its voice heard.
While the legislation focuses on credit unions, the consultation raises broader questions about how member-owned, democratically controlled organisations are supported and enabled to thrive.
Credit unions are one of the largest and most established parts of Northern Ireland's co-operative economy, and their success helps strengthen the profile of co-operation as a whole.
HAVE YOUR SAY: Responses are due by 12 noon on 4 December 2026.
We encourage co-operatives, community benefit societies and co-operative supporters to review the proposals and consider submitting a response. By participating, we can help ensure policymakers better understand the value of democratic ownership, community wealth building and member-led enterprise.
