Exciting Developments in Community Energy for Northern Ireland!

Community Energy NIOver the past six months, Co-operative Alternatives, Drumlin Wind Energy Co-op, NICE, and the Fermanagh Trust have joined forces to shape a visionary concept paper. Together, they’ve laid the foundation for a Community Energy coalition in Northern Ireland, built on shared values, purpose, vision, and mission.

Tiziana O’Hara, one of the founder members, shared her thoughts: “Forming a coalition to advance community energy in Northern Ireland is essential. Collaborative action can unleash significant potential, providing a coordinated and impactful approach compared to isolated efforts. A coalition serves as a unified voice to engage policymakers, advocate for sector needs, facilitate peer-to-peer learning, share resources, and develop collective capacity.”

This new coalition aims to transform the future of energy in Northern Ireland. By working collaboratively, community energy organisations will play a pivotal role in building a democratic, decentralized, and decarbonized energy system that empowers and benefits all communities.
