Hempcrete Workshop
Holywood Mens’ Shed, Redburn Park, Holywood
Saturday September 25 – 10.30 am to 3pm
A hempcrete workshop will be delivered by Tom Woolley, Architect and Natural Builder from Crossgar and Mark Patterson of Heritage Ltd in Ballymena. One of series of workshops that have been run all over Europe, South Africa, Chile, Canada and several with Manchester’s Carbon Co-op and the Irish Hemp Co-operative in Kerry and Dublin.
Introducing and explaining the environmental health and energy benefits of building with hemp and lime and the methods used to mix and place the materials, the plan is to cast hempcrete on the internal walls of one of the Holywood Mens’ shed buildings to make it warmer in the winter. There will be an opportunity to mix and place the hempcrete during the workshop. Participants need to bring work clothes, work gloves and sturdy footwear.
This workshop has been made possible by the generous support and assistance of the Co-operative Foundation and Co-operative Alternatives in Northern Ireland and Groundwork NI. Numbers are limited so pre-booking is essential. A light lunch and tea and coffee will be provided.
